Mental Wellness and Avoidance of Substance Abuse

MWASA is a Kenyan non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting mental wellness and preventing substance abuse among young people. As a youth-centred, community-driven initiative, MWASA advances education, advocacy, and strategic partnerships to tackle the growing challenge of alcohol and drug abuse.

Strong focus on promoting mental well-being and breaking cycle of addiction

True recovery isn't just about stopping a substance; it's about starting a new life. We believe the path to lasting freedom from addiction is built on a foundation of profound mental and emotional well-being. Our mission is to raise awareness, provide education, and offer comprehensive support to individuals and families affected by substance abuse

We Offer Different Services To Improve Your Mental Wellness

We implement targeted interventions designed to reduce the devastating impact of substance abuse and improve mental well-being through the following key areas.

Public Awareness and Education

We teach people in schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods about the risks of drugs and alcohol and the value of mental wellness. We stop problems before they start and encourage people to get help without shame.

Training and Support Services

We provide specialized training for healthcare workers, teachers, and community leaders to help them identify and support those struggling with addiction and mental health challenges.

Treatment Program

We offer more than just detox. Our programs include therapy and counseling to heal the mental health issues behind addiction. This full support leads to lasting recovery. We also work with local clinics to provide these services in rural and underserved areas.

Advocacy for Policy Change

MWASA fights for policy changes that prevent substance abuse and support mental health. We work with leaders to fund services, add mental health to schools, and create safer community regulations.

Building the Future: The MWASA Strategy to Reach 10 Million Youth by 2034.

MWASA’s strategy for growth is built on two pillars: strategic collaboration and tech-driven scale. We are actively building a powerful network of partners to extend our reach and deepen our impact. This integrated approach ensures we can effectively meet our mission to provide essential mental health support to millions of youth.

Our Commitment to Global Goals: Working with the UN SDGs

Good Health and Well-Being

We directly combat the non-communicable disease of substance use disorder through prevention programs, evidence-based treatment, and long-term aftercare. Our unique focus on building mental resilience is a proactive promotion of mental health, reducing the burden of disease and saving lives.

Quality Education

A healthy mind is essential for learning. Substance abuse and untreated mental health issues are significant barriers to education. By supporting the well-being of individuals and families, we help create the stable, healthy environments necessary for children and adults to thrive academically and pursue lifelong learning.

Gender Equality

Women often face unique barriers and stigmas when seeking treatment for addiction and mental health. We provide gender-sensitive care and trauma-informed services that address these specific challenges, empowering women to heal and achieve equality in all aspects of their lives.

Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

Addiction can be a driver of crime and violence, while also stemming from trauma. By treating the root causes, we contribute to safer communities and reduce the burden on the justice system. We also advocate for policies that treat addiction as a health issue, not a criminal one, supporting stronger, more just institutions.
